Chill Skill Exchange for Art as Education and Education as art

Email sent to different societies to share their skills:

Hi there at Chill Out Society,

I am a final year MA Fine Art student and during Innovative Learning Week, on Thursday 21st February, I am holding a speed-dating skill-exchange event for university societies and others to take part in. I would like to invite (a member/members of) your society and would be delighted for you to participate. This event would be an occasion for you to think laterally about an aspect of what you do and how that could be easily shared as a skill with someone. For example, 'how to...'

I envisage multiple workstations around the room, upon which two societies come together and exchange a skill that that society practices. After about 30 minutes, the societies will switch and exchange once again. There will also be members of the wider student body who will drop-in and take part.

The idea behind this event is to celebrate the hobbies and skills that we practice in our spare time for ourselves and for enjoyment – not those that we expect to get paid for or do with the aspiration to get a job at the end of it. We all obviously work so hard on our degrees but I’m interested in the activities that we undertake alongside them.

Would you be interested in taking part? All that you would need to prepare is a skill – no matter how big or small – that you can exchange for another.

This will be a really fun alternative event during Innovative Learning Week and as well as taking part myself, I will provide nibbles, drinks and music. It will be also be a really good opportunity to promote your society mid-way through the year for any latecomers – your aims, aspirations and activities.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions

All the best,
Jessica
